The Mayfly is a remarkable creature. Scientists think mayflies have been around before dinosaurs. The mayfly begins life as an egg, then it hatches as a nymph. The nymph evolves and ascends from the water as a sub-imago or dun. After a couple of hours, the dun sheds the outer skin to emerge as a brightly colored imago or spinner. Mayflies have a very short lifespan. Female mayflies only live for about 5 mins and males can live up to two days.
We believe there are three life lessons we can learn from the Mayfly.
If nothing ever changed, we wouldn’t have mayflies. Like the mayfly, we grow through the stages of our lives. We grow by learning new things, having new experiences, and helping others. We grow as friends, leaders, sons, daughters, and communicators.
With a short lifespan, the mayfly's life reminds us to explore the opportunities around us. We do that by being present and mindful of our time with family and friends. We choose to connect with the people around us and give time to things that matter most. This brings us closer to our goals and offers great happiness.
The mayfly’s life reminds us that life is short. To live life to the fullest, we look to find happiness in the little moments. We have the courage to move forward in situations that may seem challenging. This brings opportunities to use our talents to help others and make a difference.
